My Trip to DC
Many people make a new year’s resolution to broaden their horizons and travel more. For 2024, my new year’s resolution was to travel less.
Clearly, that’s going well.
I found myself en route to Washington D.C. for an onsite meeting at the end of March, the timing being truly impeccable since that happens to be peak cherry blossom season. My DC-based colleagues recommended I head to the Tidal Basin for the best viewing areas, so as soon as my train arrived at Union Station I went straight there, luggage and everything.
You may be wondering why I decided to reduce my traveling. In 2023 I was flying somewhere pretty much every other week, to the point where I would attend my weekly commitments (DnD, the temple) around once a month at best. Moving to New York enabled me to get a direct flight easily, the pandemic finally ending cued everyone’s FOMO to plan trips and see the world, and the woes of being a new grad in the real world fueled me to try every new experience out there, with travel being a comprehensive instigator for new experiences.
I said yes to every trip, which meant saying no to building consistency.
Despite my apprehensions, the trip was a great time! I’m lucky that I got to see the cherry blossoms via a work trip. Consistency will come one way or the other; maybe it’s best I just focus on the present instead. Let’s see what the rest of the year has in store :)
