A Love Letter to Friends
In my first blog post, I distinctly stated that I would refrain from getting too personal here.
In abidance of that, this love-centric post will be talking about friends and friends only. Happy Valentines Month! 💌
As our ever changing world fills itself with Apple VR headsets, the Metaverse, and other alternatives to face-to-face interaction, you’d be remiss if you didn’t acknowledge the fundamental human need for social connection. The pandemic paved the way for online interaction supremacy, however building a new community experienced an evolution of its own during this time.
New York was kind to me in this regard. Finding friends in college is easy for most part due to the interconnectivity of classes, clubs, and commonalities, but after graduating finding a group requires a lot more proactive effort and outreach. NYC provided a lot of unique avenues for me to meet people. Some of my best friends today are from a tiktok-organized book exchange, an apartment hunting facebook group full of strangers, and a run in at a UT themed bar for the Texas vs OU rivalry game.
So, here’s my open love letter to friends, sharing moments of kindness I’ve had recently. Thank you for organizing a surprise dinner and cheering me up when I was upset about work. Thank you for gifting me a mini turtle made of seashells because you heard me make a comment about liking turtles at the American Museum of Natural History. Thank you for coming out to watch me run at 7AM on a Saturday because you were vested in my journey and wanted to support me. Thank you for looking out for my dietary restrictions more proactively than I do when we go out for food. Thank you for encouraging me to start reading again by going to the New York Public Library with me; I’m proud to be an avid reader again! Thank you for introducing me to your high school friend you thought I’ll get along with; she and I have become really good friends now too!
And lastly, thank you for the endless love, support, and memories. You all make my world a better place. 🫶
