Hello, World
Sic Parvis Magna — greatness from small beginnings.
A pretty fitting title considering this is my first blog post, being written in a google doc on my cell phone (personal laptop is currently on life support) which I can’t format into a book because the mobile view has restrictions 🥳. Sir Francis Drake was onto something; maybe this blog will be too.
I’m not sure what will become of this. I’ve finished two journals so far and come to verbalize my opinions into something that could actually provide value to more than just me. I could benefit from structuring my thoughts into something suitable for an external audience’s lens. I could evaluate all the food, books, shows, movies, and content I’ve consumed, and use it to inspire my own creative journey.
I could also benefit from some sleep — it’s 3AM and I don’t know why I chose now to have this sudden bout of creativity. Greatness from nocturnal beginnings?
To be clear to the audience (which includes myself): this isn’t a supplement to my journal. After all, there are some things which best remain internal, and I still need a space for me to confide in (I’m not one to word rant on the internet). I’ll still have a notebook on the side filled with receipts and ticket stubs of my travels alongside core memories that deserve to be documented. Maybe I’ll show it to ya someday :)
So, let’s have a proper introduction. Hello, world!
My name is Saomya [ˈsɔːm-ee-ʌ] Tangri [tahn-gri:] and I’m currently 22 years old. I live in New York City now, but I spent most of my life in Texas, as well as a brief four year residency in the Philippines. I went to school at UT Austin (hook ‘em horns! 🤘) and graduated with a degree in computer science, as well as minors in business administration, applied statistics, and Hindi. Here’s an assortment of details about me you didn’t know until now:
I meditate twice a day every day and have been doing so since I was a child
I have a collection of weird memorabilia — some of which includes mini cloth stuffed animals, Christmas themed coffee cup sleeves from Ralph’s Coffee, and a record from Blue Öyster Cult
My latest obsession is theater: I’ve seen 10-14 broadway shows since I moved to New York
I think more people should care about climate change
I like going to coffee shops more than coffee itself. Often times I’ll find myself reluctantly ordering a latte at a local cafe just so I can sit there and enjoy the ambiance guilt-free
I believe in the oxford comma and hope you do too
